The European Central Bank has launched a 70-member innovation hub to accelerate development of its digital euro project. Participants range from fintech startups to established financial giants—Accenture, Swisscom, CaixaBank, and KPMG among them—all collaborating on payment functionalities and real-world applications.
This marks the culmination of a year-long recruitment drive targeting payment processors and financial institutions. ECB President Christine Lagarde confirms the testing window will close in October, setting the stage for a definitive decision on Europe’s CBDC future.
